Johan Karlsson (1974)
From Mariehamn on Åland. Studied metal work at Nyckelvisskolan in Sweden 1998-99.
Johan Karlsson creates recycled metal sculptures. His sculptures are imaginative and created with the most unlikely objects such as cutlery and other recycled metal scraps, which he processes into beautiful sculptural works of art, often in the form of animals of a natural size.
Since 2006, Johan Karlsson has participated in over twenty art exhibitions, such as at Galleri Skarpans, the Sci-Fi Fair Archipelagon, 2016. In 2012 Karlsson participated in SVTs Barnkanalen’s programme Philofix making a beetle of recycled metal.
In the spring of 2019, Karlsson participated in a much appreciated art exhibition at Åland Art Museum.
In 2019 Karlsson’s sculptures attracted a lot of attention at Affordable Art Fair, Stockholm.
Johan Karlsson’s studio is a popular destination during the annual Konstrundan; a tour of open art studios on Åland in September.
Johan Karlsson’s works are represented at the Åland Art Museum, the City of Mariehamn, and in several private collections both on Åland and internationally.
